Development of a state of water resources basin report for Victoria Water Management Zone (VWMZ)

Project Time :

ESIPPS International Ltd is supporting the Ministry of Water and Environment (MWE) through the Directorate of Water Resources Management (DWRM) to compile, analyze and present water resources data for the catchments in The Victoria Water Management Zone (VWMZ) as water resources information in form of a basin’s atlas and state report

Following the Water Resources Management reform study recommendations, the Ministry of Water and Environment (MWE) through the Directorate of Water Resources Management (DWRM) developed Catchment Planning Guidelines (CPGs). The purpose of the guidelines is to offer systematic guidance to the development of water and related resources Catchment Management Plans (CMPs) that offer guided sustainable utilization, development and management of the water resources in a catchment.

The CPGs are being implemented through the delineated four (4) Water Management Zones (WMZs) namely: Victoria WMZ, Albert WMZ, Kyoga WMZ and Upper Nile WMZ.

The Victoria Water Management Zone (VWMZ) is implementing a stakeholders’ driven Catchment Based Integrated Water Resources Management (CBIWRM) approach in its various catchments. As part of the process to guide the development of CMPs for various catchments in VWMZ, the current state of water and related resources of VWMZ is being processed into information that will form a knowledge base for the zone.

The purpose of the knowledge base will be to: (i) provide a baseline for future monitoring of the progress made in water resources management and development in the zone and (ii) act as a basis for decision making on various water resources issues.
